Embermark Legends

Embermark Legends is the game I recommend when someone wants a proper RPG they can play on a plane. There's a real story here — a group of exiles trying to make a home on a broken shoreline — and the turn-based battles have enough tactics to keep your brain busy without needing a manual.

The writing is warmer than most mobile RPGs. Characters remember small choices, and side quests aren't just fetch loops. Combat leans on positioning and elemental matchups, so grinding is rarely necessary if you plan well.

It saves entirely on-device and never nagged me for an account. On my older phone it loaded a touch slowly, but once in, it ran smoothly for long stretches.
